The Ministry of Education has hailed teachers in the country for speedily complying with the laws by registering with the Teachers Council of Malawi (TCM).
Ministry of Education Public Relations Officer, Mphatso Nkuonera said that only registered teachers are eligible to teach.
“We had 31st December, 2024 as the closing date for teachers to register and get licenced. It’s pleasing to note that not less than 82,000 teachers have already received their licences to teach.

“The reminants have a big task to play for them to get the licence from TCM, otherwise by law they cannot practice teaching in the country, and whenever we carry out inspections it will be unacceptable to find unregistered teachers in class,” he said.
Nkuonera emphasised that TCM is mandated to regulate the teaching profession in order to among others ensure that there is total compliance and sanity.
The ministry extended the closing dates in order to allow those who had challenges in the initial phase to have ample time to get registered.
