A man from Malaya Nkhata village in Mzimba has been arrested for falsely reporting the murder of his 12-year-old son.
The incident occurred on February 16, 2025, when the accused, Chizaso Nguluwe, lodged a complaint at Luwinga Police Unit, claiming that his son, Chizaso Nguluwe Junior, had been murdered by an angry mob in the village.
According to the police report, Nguluwe alleged that his son had stolen maize from a garden in the village, prompting the mob to attack and kill him.
He further claimed that his house had been set on fire, leaving him without a place to stay.
However, when police officers, led by D/Insp Maferano, visited Mzuzu Central Hospital Mortuary to verify the report, they found no dead body.
A subsequent visit to the scene of the alleged crime at Malaya village revealed that the accused’s son was alive and well, playing with friends.
The police were surprised to find that the house was also in good condition, and family relatives were equally shocked by the false report.
The accused, Nguluwe, was subsequently arrested and placed in custody for conduct likely to cause breach of peace. He will also undergo a medical examination.
