Chilobwe United FC president, Tawonga Mhango, has revealed the club’s ambitious target of earning promotion to the TNM Super League within the next two years.
He made this declaration during the club’s 2024 Award Gala, which took place at Golden Peacock Hotel in Blantyre.
The glamorous event was organized to honor players and technical staff for their remarkable achievements in the 2024 season.
Chilobwe United FC had a triumphant campaign, emerging as champions of the 2024 Betika Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) League Division One.
Following this success, the club is set to compete in the ThumbsUp Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) League Premier Division in the 2025 season.
The Premier Division has recently been relegated to the third-tier level of Malawian football, making it a crucial battleground for teams aspiring to reach the TNM Super League.
Despite this restructuring, Chilobwe United remains optimistic about its chances of progressing further up the football pyramid.
During the awards ceremony, several players and officials were recognized for their outstanding contributions throughout the season.
Defender Sylvester Chimenya emerged as the biggest winner of the night after being crowned the 2024 Player of the Year.
Rising star Charles Nkhoma also had a memorable evening, securing two prestigious awards—Best Young Player and Best Midfielder.
Isaac Chikoti was named the Most Disciplined Player in recognition of his exemplary conduct on and off the field.
The Best Goalkeeper award went to Innocent Mbwenye, who played a pivotal role in the club’s defensive success.
Team Manager Owen Chaima was honored with two significant awards—Best Member of the Technical Panel and the highly regarded President’s Award.
Each award recipient received a cash prize of K100,000 as a token of appreciation for their efforts.
The event was graced by Blantyre City Deputy Mayor, Isaac Jomo Osman, who served as the Guest of Honour.
Popular Malawian musician Pon G provided entertainment for the night, adding excitement to the celebratory atmosphere.
