“A mother does not throw away her child simply because the neighbor complained.”
This is the wisdom our elders taught us.
But today, the MCP government seems determined to betray one of our own, handing over Shepherd Bushiri like a lamb to the slaughter—sending him not to justice, but to a place where many Malawians have been denied justice.
This is not about religion. This is not about politics. This is about the dignity of a nation and the protection of its citizens.
We cannot remain silent while our courts are used to sacrifice a Malawian on the altar of political convenience.
A Malawian in South Africa Is a Lamb Among Wolves
Those who blindly call for Bushiri’s extradition speak from the comfort of ignorance.
They have never walked the streets of South Africa as a Malawian.
They have never felt the cold fear of being called Makwerekwere, an outsider in a land that claims justice but delivers none.
Malawians in South Africa are not just foreigners—they are targets.
We have seen our brothers and sisters brutally killed in xenophobic attacks in the streets in shops in shops where they are working without any protection of the government or compensations.
We have seen them harassed by police, denied fair trials, and treated as second-class human beings. Even in death, their families are left without answers.
“If a snake enters the village, it does not bite the chief’s children alone—it bites us all.” When Malawians suffer in South Africa, it is not an isolated case. It is a warning. And yet, our government now wants to send Bushiri into the very fire that has burned so many before him.
Justice Cannot Be One-Sided
Yes, we respect the law. But law is not just a piece of paper—it is a principle of fairness. Malawi has an extradition treaty with South Africa, but treaties must work in fairness and justice.
A just government will defends its people. It does not offer them as sacrifices. “You do not throw away your shield because your enemy has demanded it.” The same legal system that South Africa wants to use against Bushiri has failed to protect Malawians living there. If their justice system cannot guarantee the safety of our people, how can we trust them with the fate of one of our own?
MCP’s Betrayal Will Not Be Forgotten
If MCP insists on sending Bushiri back, let them know this: history does not forget betrayal.
The people will not forget. The anger of Malawians will be written in the ballot box. The betrayal of one Malawian today will become the downfall of those in power tomorrow.
“When the rain falls, it does not choose one roof.” If MCP believes this injustice will only affect Bushiri, they are mistaken.
The consequences of political games played with the lives of citizens always come back to haunt those who play them.
A Call to All Malawians
This is not about one man. It is about all of us. If they can send Bushiri to his death today, who will be next?
We call upon all Malawians, regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation, to stand for justice. We must rally behind Bushiri not as a pastor, not as a businessman, but as a Malawian whose rights must be protected.
” Let Malawi remember its duty to its people. Let our courts not be used to serve the interests of a few, but to defend the dignity of the nation.
Let justice be fair, or let it not be called justice at all.
Where is the freedom of Malawians residing in south Africa?
