Showers of praises to Yona Mkandawire for being servant MP

By Vincent Gunde

Showers of praises from Malawians regardless of their political affiliations are going to a Malawi Congress Party (MCP) legislator for Rumphi West Constituency Yona Adadawiza Mkandawire for proving to his constituents and Malawians that being in Parliament is not to clap hands for nonsense the party is doing for Malawians.

Mkandawire is one of the Members alongside with Yeremia Chihana, Kamlepo Kalua and Sameer Suleman who have proved to Malawians that it is possible to represent the affairs of their people first in Parliament and affairs of their parties, second.

He is a true patriot for Malawi and if the National Assembly had such 100 Members of their caliber, Malawi would have registered meaningful development projects by now like Burkina Faso and would not be the number 46 of the world’s poorest countries on the Earth’s planet.

Making his contribution during a parliamentary debate for the proposed 2025 -2026 budget which has passed with the State House getting the largest chunk of meat, Mkandawire defied all the olds when he described the budget as retrogressive.

Mkandawire joined the bandwagon of protesters in Parliament who stood courageously arguing that the State House cannot receive a large chunk of meat leaving out other equally important sectors underfunded and hospitals running without essential drugs.

In February, 2025 Mkandawire was the first to score into his own net when he openly disputed claims of President Chakwera’s State of the Nations Address (SONA) outlining projects he has delivered on paper while not existing on the ground.

Mkandawire’s sentiments in Parliament attracted red eyes from his party-MCP labelling him an enemy to the party and as he was being called an enemy, it was later proved that President Chakwera delivered a half-trust SONA, he went back to Parliament to withdraw some content of his SONA.

Mrs. Esnath Kaliza Banda of Area 51 in Lilongwe, has thanked Yona Adadawiza Mkandawire for standing up in Parliament shaming the MCP claiming that for 5 years, MCP senior ministers have been praising Chakwera as the deliverer of projects in Malawi.

Kaliza appealed to other MCP parliamentarian in the house to stand together with their people not the party observing that the projects which President Chakwera outlined in Parliament as completed ones while not, will be a yardstick to their downfall for choosing to remain quiet in Parliament.

She said Members of Parliament will be judged with what they have implemented in their constituencies not what the MCP has spoken by taking lies of President Chakwera to Parliament which is the house of records that he has delivered while on the ground, there is zero deliveries.

“This time you should have sided with your own people, the people are to vote for you not the party, what legacy will you leave after being voted out as an MPs?” question Kaliza to MPs.
She has advised incumbent MCP MPs in the urban centres of Lilongwe, Blantyre, Zomba and Mzuzu not to waste their resources for their coming back into Parliament, assuring them that opposition parties shadow MPs will take up their positions.
