Activist Redson Munlo who quit activism to join frontline politics in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) government, has expressed his deep concern over the inner fighting which is taking place in the MCP over the issue of presidential running mate.
Munlo said this time the MCP was supposed to be busy preparing for the war on the 16th September, 2025 General Elections and instead of shooting down their enemies on the battle field, they are busy shooting amongst themselves describing this as a worrisome development.
He said because of the inner fighting within the party itself, the party is seeming not organized to win the battle ahead, two heavyweights who are all cabinet ministers in the Chakwera’s led government are being seen fighting in front of their supporters.
Speaking through a leaked audio clip, Munlo has made it clear to the MCP that winning this government on the 16th September, 2025 elections is not a walk-in or an obvious thing, they have to struggle and this struggle should not be fighting between Richard Chimwendo Banda and Vitumbiko Mumba.
Munlo has advised those who are fighting for presidential running mate position to leave and give time to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to choose whoever is capable to help him in line with the MCP Constitution on the issue of running mate.
He said fighting today before President Chakwera choose one to become his running mate will take the party to nowhere claiming that already the party is losing its morale because people are seeing them as not organized ahead of the polls in September.
The Activist has advised Chimwendo Banda and Vitumbiko Mumba that if they have issues, they can take it to the Cabinet bearing in mind that the two are cabinet ministers and not to the party supporters for solutions.
“Chimwendo Banda and Vitumbiko Mumba are above the presidential age qualification of 35 years, they are all grown-up and are beyond 40 years, but the way they are doing things, it’s like they are 15 years old,” said Munlo.
He has warned those who are fighting for presidential running mate position that their inner fighting will affect the party supporters leading to divisions in the party and at the end of the day, the vote to suffer is that for President Chakwera.
On the issue of shadow parliamentarians and councilors, Munlo has advised senior MCP members not to interfere with the affairs of the constituencies, they should leave this to the people themselves to choose and not the party choosing for them.
Mumba has described politics which is being seen in the MCP as savage politics displayed by people who haven’t gone to school saying the power to choose Constituencies elected member rests in the hands of Malawians themselves and not the party playing its part.
