One of the defense lawyers representing filmmaker Tumpe Mtaya, popularly known by his stage name Phwedo, has confirmed that the prosecution has served them with court documents in relation to his case.
This confirmation, according to the lawyer Robert Kadzakumanja, follows a ruling made by the court, instructing the state to avail the necessary documents to the defense.
This development means that Phwedo is expected to appear in court tomorrow to respond to charges levelled against him.
He is accused of having sexual intercourse with a minor and allegedly keeping the child against her will.
Phwedo, who is currently on bail, was arrested on April 22 last month.
His bail was granted by the Chief Resident Magistrate Court in Lilongwe.
The case has sparked significant public attention due to Phwedo’s status as a well-known filmmaker.
As the trial progresses, many are closely watching to see how the legal process will unfold.
The defense has emphasized the importance of a fair trial and access to all relevant documents to ensure justice is served.
The court proceedings tomorrow are expected to shed more light on the nature of the allegations and how the accused intends to respond.
More updates are anticipated as the case continues to develop.
