Today marks a significant moment for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) as it conducts primary elections in the Mzimba Central constituency.
The elections are a crucial step in determining who will represent the party in the upcoming general elections, drawing the attention of both party loyalists and political observers.
The contest has attracted two prominent contenders: Vitumbiko Mumba, the current Minister of Trade, and Adamson Mkandawire, who serves as the Presidential Advisor on Rural Development.
Both candidates enjoy substantial backing from different sections of the constituency, making the race one of the most closely watched within the party’s internal elections this year.
However, the process has not been entirely smooth, as reports emerged that unknown individuals have started burning tyres at Euthini.
This act appears to be a deliberate attempt to disrupt the elections and possibly intimidate voters or election officials.
The burning of tyres has created an atmosphere of tension and uncertainty, raising concerns about the safety of those involved in the election process.
Authorities, including police and party security personnel, are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any escalation of violence or interference with the voting process.
