A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has praised three activists Bon Kalindo, Sylvester Namiwa and DPP National Director of Women Mary Thom Navicha for demonstrating that their attendance at the PAC All-Inclusive conference in Blantyre, the whole 20 million plus citizens in Malawi attended.

First, it was Bon Kalindo who stood up protesting to the conference for their voices to be heard, he did this after noting that beside them raising their hands to speak, their hands were not recognized meaning that others in the conference room were not happy to see their presence.

Inspector General of Police madam Merlyn Yolamu reported to the conference that 3 suspects of those who deflated motor vehicle tyres belonging to opposition party members at the Parliament premises including that of Zomba Malosa constituency Grace Kwelepeta were arrested and police are expecting more arrests but she did not disclose identities of the suspects.

Madam Yolamu accused demonstrations organizers of holding illegal demonstrations saying such demonstrations ends up in tears, police have one option of firing teargases to disperse the angry crowds for peace to return.

Sylvester Namiwa stood up reminding Yolamu of the 17th November, 2024 demonstrations and 19th November which changed to 25th November, 2024 demonstrations only to be told that President Chakwera is going out of the country and police officers will be on duty on that day.

Namiwa said today, it is sad that Yolamu told the conference lies asking her to report to the conference how many cases of MCP perpetrated violence have been recorded by her office and police investigations?

He requested Yolamu to honorably accept that as Police Inspector General, she has failed and therefore she should step down describing her as a threat to peace and stability of the country claiming that police have only made arrests of suspects in Machinga, Chikwawa and not Lilongwe and Mponela.

“We are promoting omen empowerment in Malawi that they should take up challenging positions one being Inspector General of Police, you have failed and you will leave no legacy in Malawi,” said Namiwa.

He proposed that by the end of the conference, there should be a resolution that an interim committee be formed to oversee the 16th September, 2025 elections arguing that the way the Inspector General has demonstrated, Malawians are not safe that police will protect them.

Kamphangala has described Madam Yolamu as the worst police Inspector General the county has ever had since the dawn of multiparty politics and democracy in 1994 saying if all IGs were discharging their duties like Yolamu, the whole police would have joined politics of a political party in government.

He said police officers have been turned into laughing stocks by Malawians, they are not feared at all as the past case is remembering them case in point police bosses working for the ruling parties in government saying this is what police today have been crown MCP Police.

The MCP diehard said it was not surprising that Mary Navicha pointed fingers at her fellow woman Yolamu for taking Malawi Police as MCP police saying this has made the police to lose trust of the people they are serving today.

“Madam Yolamu has proved to the world that Malawi Police is not independent, it is getting advices from politicians on who to arrest, trust by the people has gone to the graveyard,” said Kamphangala.
