Political activist Bon Kalindo has appealed to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who is Commander in Chief of the Armed forces in the country to look after the welfare of soldiers, Police officers and Prison officers including their uniforms and promotions.
Kalindo said it is very pathetic that promotions in these institutions are favoring only the Chewas of the central region leaving others from the south and north as not important saying this is demoralizing the soldiers in the discharge of their duties.
He said at Mvera-Support Battalion, there is water crisis, wives of Army officers are drawing water from unprotected water sources, the Army Commander General Dr. Paul Velentino Phiri has never had time to visit Mvera Barracks to appreciate the water challenge.
Speaking through an audio clip, Kalindo has asked President Chakwera to procure a water pump to Mvera Support Battalion to ease the water challenge since their Commander has failed to do the same saying this will be part of alleviating their everyday life challenges.
Kalindo has also asked President Chakwera, Army Commander and Police Inspector General to love the soldiers in the country saying K28 million was marked to give soldiers of the Support Battalion in Mvera so that each soldier providing security for this year’s Primary School Leaving Certificate of Educations (PSLCE) pocket K550,000 as exercise allowances.
He said instead of giving the soldiers the stated figure, they have pocketed K300,000 meaning that K250,000 has been deducted from each soldier expressing fears that if this has happened to one Barracks alone, what about the other Barracks’ and police?
The activist has asked the officers to feel mercy when stealing money from their fellow officers saying this is paining the receivers but they cannot express themselves because of their protocol but inwardly, they are crying.
“You have stolen from them K250,000 each, K200,000 deductions for House Allowance, one day, you will pay for this,” lamented Kalindo.
Commenting on the just ended PAC All-inclusive conference which was held in Blantyre, Kalindo has informed Malawians that the conference rejected the use of Smartmatic machine for the 16th September, 2025 elections.
Kalindo said if Mec and MCP continue with their plans to use the machines, they will go to court, however, he has faulted opposition parties in the country wrong for taking too long to go to court and writing a joint letter to the international community boycotting the elections.
