A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has described Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal ruling on Mulli Brothers Companies as a great lesson to all political parties in government that there is no party to rule for life.
In the ruling, the Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal has ordered Sunrise Pharmaceuticals and Chombe Food Products owned by businessman Leston Mulli to refund K3 billion to the Malawi Government with interest within 30 days.
The Court has also directed the two companies to settle for the costs incurred during the appeal case by the Attorney General Thabo Chakaka-Nyirenda following the ruling of the High Court of Malawi during the years of the DPP reign of the Late Professor Bingu wa Mutharika.
During the 20th July, 2011 demonstrations, Sunrise Pharmaceuticals and Chombe Food Products were one of the companies where the angry demonstrators broken into and looted worth of property forcing the owner of the companies to file a case in court.
The Government of the time-the DPP awarded Mulli Brothers a total of K3 billion as compensations for the lost property, this was done in the interest of Mulli, a senior member of the DPP and the DPP government did not find problems in paying one of their own.
Kamphangala said if the DPP was still in power till today, the matter of 2011 could have been a forgotten history in Malawi but thanks to the change of government that has ruled in favor of Malawians to recover their money back from Mulli.
He said MCP members are filled with joy that the court has made a landslide decision forgetting that this will also happen to them that whether one likes it or not, no matter how powerful individuals in the MCP will be, the MCP will not rule for life.
The MCP diehard said in the MCP, there are people who have benefited receiving huge sums of money for no work at all, contractors pocketing money for completing a project on paper, ministers and MPs enriching themselves with corrupt money, time is coming for them to dance to the music of the courts.
He said he feel very sorry to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera that he was made to stand in Parliament outlining development projects his government has implemented in his 5 years only to realize that he presented projects which were not existing on the ground.
“President Chakwera went back to the Parliament to withdraw the SONA and has become the first President in Malawi to withdraw his SONA, but to this day, all those that lied to him for him to present lies before a sacred House, are with him, no one was fired,” said Kamphanagala.
He has assured all those that have benefited for being MCP loyalists and receiving huge money without working for it or money out of doing a substandard work that they will pay back the money to government, claiming that what has happened to Mulli will also happen to them with the same song change of government.
To the panga wielding thugs sponsored by politicians in the MCP to abuse, hack and terrorize innocent people in the country, Kamphangala has assured them that they will stand and defend alone in courts saying the party will disown them as thugs not members of the MCP.
