Police in Lilongwe have arrested a 27-year-old man, Shadreck Folly, in connection with the possession of stolen photography studio equipment.

The arrest took place at Game Stores Complex in Lilongwe, where Folly was found with the stolen items believed to have been taken from Xian Creative Photo Studio in Mzuzu.

According to Lilongwe police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu, the suspect was attempting to sell the equipment when he was apprehended.

Chigalu said the officers who approached Folly at the complex were already aware that the items had been reported stolen in Mzuzu on 31 May 2025.

The police had received a tip-off and were tracking the movement of the stolen items, leading them directly to the suspect.

Photographers and members of the public at the complex who recognized the stolen goods reportedly alerted the authorities, facilitating the arrest.

Upon being questioned, Folly admitted to conspiring with security guards to steal the equipment from the Mzuzu-based studio.

The value of the stolen equipment is estimated at MWK 4 million.

Folly has since been transferred to Mzuzu, where the theft originally occurred, to face criminal charges.

Police say investigations are still underway to trace and apprehend other individuals who may have been involved in the heist.

Shadreck Folly hails from Kajawa Village, under Traditional Authority Kadewere in Chiradzulu District.

Law enforcement authorities have commended the public for their vigilance and cooperation in bringing the suspect to justice.
