The Basketball Association of Malawi (BAM) has emphasized that the sport presents immense opportunities for talented Malawian youth to improve their skills and attain economic progress.
This was said during the ongoing national basketball tournament held at the KUHES Sports Complex in Blantyre.
Speaking at the event, BAM’s Director of Marketing, Ntchiwa Chiwaya, highlighted the growing interest in basketball among young people across the country.
Chiwaya noted that it is encouraging to see a significant number of youth actively participating in the sport, which shows the game’s increasing popularity and potential.
She further announced that the tournament has reached its final stage, with eight top male teams and eight top female teams making it through to the last round of the competition.
Chiwaya stressed that such competitive events not only help identify raw talent but also create platforms for youth to pursue careers in sports both locally and internationally.
Also present at the tournament was CDH Investment Bank’s Chief Business Development Officer, Jamal Kamoto, whose institution has significantly contributed to the success of this year’s competition.
Kamoto revealed that CDH Investment Bank invested K44 million towards this year’s national basketball championship.
He said the bank’s support is part of its broader commitment to corporate social responsibility aimed at promoting sports development in Malawi.
Kamoto added that CDH Investment Bank will continue to partner with key stakeholders to ensure that basketball reaches both urban and rural communities.
He concluded by stating that inclusive participation in sports like basketball can help unite communities, promote health, and create economic opportunities for young Malawians.
The national basketball tournament continues to attract attention from sports lovers, with hopes that more corporate players will join hands in supporting the sport’s growth in Malawi.
