The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has launched its 2025 Manifesto at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre, outlining plans to revive the economy, strengthen governance, and improve service delivery.
The 92-page blueprint, presented by Organizing Committee Chairperson Collins Magalasi, focuses on agricultural productivity, industrialization, urbanization, and decentralization. Key enablers include mining, energy, transport, ICT and Artificial Intelligence, tourism, rule of law, anti-corruption measures, education, health, and gender empowerment.
Among its main pledges, the party has committed to:
- Allocating K5 billion annually to each constituency for development projects, funded from local resources.
- Overhauling the Immigration Department to improve access to travel documents.
- Modernizing traffic law enforcement by removing on-the-spot fines and introducing systems such as CCTV cameras.
The event began with a moment of silence for victims of the Chikangawa tragedy, led by Sheikh Gerald, who also called for leadership change.
While DPP President Arthur Peter Mutharika was absent, party officials said he would join a march from Kamuzu Upper Stadium to Njamba for a rally. His running mate, Jane Ansah, attended the launch on his behalf.
Magalasi described the manifesto as “a blueprint to rebuild Malawi,” promising implementation starting September 16.
