By Allan Ngumuya
I will not take much of your time, fellow Malawians.
This article is brief but bold.
I will mention names with utmost respect, and I humbly ask anyone who might feel offended to find space in their hearts to forgive me.
What I am about to say is rooted in fact and the truth of the matter.
I love Malawi, and I have genuine affection for everyone mentioned in this piece.
As I observe how political parties are moving in their quest to convince Malawians to vote for them, I have come up with a personal analysis directed at both the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the United Transformation Movement (UTM).
To begin with, I would like to address the UTM National Executive Committee, starting with Honourable Willet Kalonga.
As the campaign season approaches, I urge all UTM members to start preaching the message of love.
Let all UTM followers and leaders respect and love everyone in the DPP.
Stay away from any form of hate speech or political insults.
DPP is UTM, and UTM is DPP — in the bigger picture of national interest.
Let UTM and DPP speak the same political language.
I understand that in any group of two or three people, disagreements are inevitable, but that should not stop these parties from coming together for a common purpose.
Let DPP and UTM join forces to remove President Dr Lazarus Chakwera from power in the upcoming elections.
The key to this goal lies squarely in the hands of DPP and UTM.
Take it or leave it — the responsibility is theirs.
Everything depends on the decisions these two parties make now.
And I must stress — there is only one clear path to triumph on September 16, 2025.
That path is humility.
If only the DPP can humble itself and allow Dr Dalitso Kabambe to lead the alliance, the political battle will be won within hours.
This is a painful truth, but it is a truth nonetheless.
I say this with conviction because Dr Kabambe is the only candidate who stands out in terms of articulating a clear and visionary manifesto.
What I am calling for is humility from DPP, and collaboration with UTM to rally behind Dr Kabambe.
Having Dr Kabambe as the presidential candidate will both serve and save the Malawian people.
Such a move would prove that politicians from both parties have a genuine heart for Malawians at the grassroots level.
On the contrary, refusing to act in this way will only demonstrate that these politicians care more about their personal interests than the welfare of Malawians.
That would be a great tragedy.
With sincerity, I propose that the hardliners from both DPP and UTM should sit down for serious dialogue.
This conversation must be bold, strategic, and patriotic, with the aim of arriving at a meaningful and people-centered agreement.
If I were to suggest a joint committee to facilitate this discussion, I would choose the following individuals from the DPP: Honourable Mukhito, Honourable Shadreck Namalomba, Honourable Jean Mathanga, Honourable Joseph Mwanamvekha, Honourable Sameer Suleman, Honourable Mary Navitcha, Honourable George Chaponda, Honourable Bright Msaka, Honourable Noel Gangata, Honourable Jappie Mhango, and Honourable Mzomera Ngwira.
From the UTM side, my committee would include Honourable Willet Kalonga, Honourable Patricia Kaliati, Honourable Masangwi, Honourable Newton Kambala, Honourable Mtumbuka, Honourable Catherine Mzumara, Honourable Makondi, Honourable Salambula, Honourable Njawala, and Honourable Msusa.
I respectfully request this committee to nominate Dr Kabambe as the torchbearer for the 2025 elections.
Dr Kabambe has never disappointed the DPP, and I believe he never will.
He will fully honour and respect his mentor and former boss, former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
Dr Kabambe is a man with a compassionate heart.
He has never forgotten those who mentored him and helped him reach the level he is at today.
Dr Kabambe worked closely with both APM and his brother Bingu wa Mutharika, and they never had any issues.
He has always shown unwavering respect for APM and former First Lady Getrude Mutharika.
This respect continues to this day.
You will agree with me that Dr Kabambe always speaks highly of APM in public and private forums.
He is a man of high integrity — a fact that even APM acknowledges.
Dr Kabambe is not a politician driven by greed, corruption, or personal vendettas.
That is why, today, I appeal to the DPP from the depth of my heart — let UTM be your light at the end of the tunnel on 16th September 2025.
Let this light guide you to unity and victory.
And let me say this one last time — the key for change is right under your nose.
It is in the hands of DPP and UTM, with Dr Dalitso Kabambe as the unified candidate.
Show Malawians that you love them and want to rescue them from suffering.
Otherwise, your silence and inaction will speak louder — revealing you only care about yourselves.
It is my greatest hope and prayer that you take this advice to heart and act now to save Malawi.
The opportunity is there — but it depends entirely on your willingness.
I now rest my case.
This will be my final message until September 16, 2025.
May God bless Malawi.
