Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, President and Visionaire of Goshen City, has sponsored K50 million to support the online release of the highly anticipated film, Welcome to Maula Prison.
The film is set to premiere on YouTube today at 6pm, marking a major moment for Malawi’s growing film industry.
Shot on location at Maula Prison, the movie was produced by 4Kaya Films Inc. and offers a powerful narrative about life behind bars.
The film first premiered in Malawi in May, and was later showcased in South Africa in June, receiving praise for its authenticity and emotional depth.
Speaking on the sponsorship, Prophet Bushiri said, “Our country has a lot of stories to be told,” stressing the importance of investing in local creative talent.
He affirmed that Goshen City is committed to supporting the creative industry in Malawi as part of its broader vision for national transformation.
Bushiri also revealed that talks are underway with Netflix to feature Malawian films on the global streaming platform, a move that could further elevate local storytelling to international audiences.
In response, 4Kaya Films Inc. described the sponsorship as a major boost to their ongoing mission of producing world-class content rooted in Malawian experiences.
The support from Bushiri is expected to not only broaden the film’s reach but also inspire greater collaboration between business leaders and the country’s creative sector.
As Malawi’s entertainment industry seeks to compete on the global stage, partnerships like this signal a new era of ambition, quality, and opportunity for local filmmakers.
