The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has announced that Cosmas Felix Chipojola, who is contesting as an independent candidate, has formally expressed interest to run for the presidency in the upcoming election.

MEC’s Director of Media and Public Relations, Sangwani Mwafulirwa, confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

According to Mwafulirwa, Chipojola submitted his letter of intent on the final day set for the submission of expressions of interest.

This means that Chipojola becomes the sixteenth individual to show interest in contesting for the presidency.

The number of aspiring candidates for the country’s top office has now reached sixteen (16), following Chipojola’s entry into the race.

This growing list reflects the rising interest among Malawians to lead the nation as the 2025 presidential elections draw closer.

The Malawi Electoral Commission continues to play a critical role in managing the electoral process and ensuring that all interested candidates meet the legal and procedural requirements.

As the nomination process closes, political observers now turn their attention to the official campaign period, which is expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
