MCP aspiring MP calls Chakwera to think of their security

An aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) speaking on a strict condition of anonymity, has asked President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera that while he is launching the party’s campaign for the central region, he should provide them with assurance on security issues.

The source said if there’s no assurance of their security, many aspiring MPs especially those that are not Members of Parliament, will find it hard to campaign in their respective areas as they will be facing strong opposition in their campaign meetings.

She said those that have already served as parliamentarians before and Ministers, have their own security details to defend them jealously when they are in attack asking President Chakwera not to under look issues of their security.

The aspirant said she is regretting to stand for the MCP as its representative in the urban areas saying had she known, she would not have joined the race on the party’s ticket claiming that even her supporters have alerted her on the issues of security.

The source said the MCP did not bring to book panga wielding thugs or disciplining them that the terror against members of the opposition parties would bring in negative impacts to the party especially now when the country has launched the campaign period.

She said she is envisioning total war by the opposition members who for a long time have suffered in silence from the tortures, intimidations, threats and hackings observing that these people will gang up to be disrupting MCP rallies in the constituencies.

The aspirant said the MCP has been crowned with new names such as “Chipani cha boma ndilomweli” and “Chikangawa” saying these words are more than insults and as such, the very same words will not draw sizable crowds in MCP rallies.

She said the tendency of dishing out K2000s to attract thousands of people attending MCP rallies will this time not work, those that were used to receive the K2,000s will give pressure to candidates for the same amount, describing this as a challenge.

“The political environment which the MCP through its thugs have enjoyed in terrorizing and hacking others, will now be on us, we will face the same in our campaign rallies citing the densely populated areas of Mgona, Mtandire and Chinsapo 1, there will be strong resistance to welcome MCP rallies,” said the source.

She said those MCP candidates standing in the typical rural areas are better off than those whose constituencies have big trading centres, towns and cities, expressing fears that MCP rallies will be targeted by stone throwers hence a great need for assurance of their security.
