Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the Southern Region, Joseph Mwanamveka, has called on individuals seeking to contest on the party’s ticket in the forthcoming September 16 by-elections to step up their campaign efforts as the political season gathers momentum.
Addressing a political rally on the southern outskirts of Blantyre City, Mwanamveka assured aspiring candidates of the party’s full support, saying the DPP stands ready to assist them wherever necessary to ensure their success.
“The campaign period is moving fast, and this is the time for all those who wish to represent the party to engage the people through impactful meetings and interactions. The party will provide support where needed,” said Mwanamveka.
The rally was jointly organized with the DPP’s Director of Operations, Sameer Suleman, who is also eyeing a parliamentary seat in the upcoming polls.
In his remarks, Suleman claimed the DPP remains the only political force capable of addressing the country’s pressing socio-economic challenges. He warned voters against being lured by what he described as “unrealistic and unachievable” promises from the Malawi Congress Party (MCP)-led government.
“The people of Malawi deserve real solutions, not empty rhetoric. The DPP is prepared to bring meaningful change,” Suleman said.
During the event, the DPP also welcomed several new members who defected from other political parties — a development the party says signals growing confidence in its leadership ahead of the elections.
