Philanthropist Cha Cha Donates Modern Waiting Shelter to Lingadzi Police Station

By Suleman Chitera

Lilongwe, Malawi — US-based Malawian philanthropist and businesswoman Chawezi Banda, popularly known as Cha Cha, has handed over a newly constructed modern waiting shelter to Lingadzi Police Station in Lilongwe.

The structure, built to provide comfort and safety to individuals seeking police services, especially during unfavorable weather conditions, was officially unveiled on Wednesday during a brief ceremony at the station.

Speaking at the handover, Cha Cha said the idea stemmed from a desire to ease the discomfort many people face while waiting for assistance at police stations, particularly during the rainy season or harsh sun.

“There was a real need for such a space, and I felt it was important to help,” she said, adding that the facility reflects her ongoing commitment to improving public service environments.

Receiving the donation, Lingadzi Police Station Officer, Senior Superintendent Kennedy Sangala, expressed his gratitude, saying the shelter has solved a long-standing challenge for both the police and members of the public.

“We are very grateful to Cha Cha for this timely support. The shelter will greatly improve the experience of those who come here for assistance,” Sangala said.

The facility is expected to benefit hundreds of people who visit the station weekly, including victims of crime, complainants, and witnesses.

Cha Cha has previously been involved in several charitable efforts across Malawi, including donations to schools and health centers.
