The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has announced the appointment of Mayamiko Nkoloma as the new Commissioner of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), a move it says strengthens the country’s democratic processes with technological and innovative expertise.
In a statement released on Thursday, the DPP highlighted Nkoloma’s extensive background in technology and development, describing him as a valuable addition to the Commission at a time when digital transformation is becoming central to governance.
Nkoloma is currently the Chief Executive Officer of iMoSyS, a Malawian technology company at the forefront of developing Internet of Things (IoT) solutions across various sectors including industrial automation. His work has earned him recognition as a forward-thinking innovator committed to advancing Malawi’s digital economy.
In addition to his role at iMoSyS, Nkoloma has been serving as a Lecturer in Telecommunications at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), where he is also pursuing a PhD in innovation and development.
His appointment comes after President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera initially rejected a nominee previously submitted by the DPP. The party says it believes Nkoloma’s credentials align well with the evolving needs of the Commission and will contribute significantly to the integrity and modernization of electoral processes in Malawi.
The DPP has expressed confidence that Nkoloma’s knowledge and experience will help MEC adapt to current and future challenges, ensuring credible and efficient elections.
