APM declares presidential nomination: “The time for renewal is now”

By Burnett Munthali

Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, former President of the Republic of Malawi, took to his WhatsApp platform on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, to deliver a powerful message to the nation.

In a message addressed to “My Fellow Malawians,” Mutharika began by expressing deep humility and a steadfast commitment to serving the nation once more.

He announced that on Friday, July 25, 2025, he would officially present his Presidential nomination papers in Lilongwe.

According to Mutharika, this act is not just a political maneuver but a sacred call to restore hope, dignity, and meaningful leadership in Malawi.

He acknowledged the multifaceted challenges currently facing the country, stressing that these difficulties require not only experience and vision but also decisive and resolute action.

He underscored that his decision to contest is driven by faith, patriotism, and the trust Malawians have placed in him throughout the years.

Mutharika clarified that he is not stepping forward out of a desire for power, but rather out of a sense of duty and a call to service.

He envisions rebuilding a Malawi that works for every citizen, regardless of background, where unity overcomes division and progress takes the place of stagnation.

In his call to action, Mutharika extended an invitation to all Malawians—including DPP supporters, undecided voters, and anyone who still believes in a brighter future—to walk this journey with him.

He called on the nation to move forward with courage, determination, and a profound love for Malawi.

He concluded his message by asserting that the moment for renewal has arrived and that the time for action is now.

Concluding Analysis:

Mutharika’s announcement comes at a pivotal moment in Malawi’s political landscape.

The country is grappling with economic hardship, high unemployment, and growing public discontent.

By framing his candidacy as a “sacred call” rather than a pursuit of political ambition, he seeks to position himself as a statesman above partisan squabbles.

His appeal to both supporters and undecided voters signals a broader campaign strategy aimed at national unity and rebuilding trust.

As nomination day approaches, the political scene is expected to heat up.

Mutharika’s message may strike a chord with those yearning for stability and experienced leadership in these uncertain times.
