Chilungo Vows to End Hunger, Fix Forex Woes in Malawi

Independent presidential aspirant Adil Chilungo has pledged to tackle hunger and resolve Malawi’s persistent foreign exchange shortages if elected in the September 16 polls.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Nalikolo Village, Malombe, Mangochi District, yesterday, Chilungo said his administration would prioritise agricultural productivity by promoting affordable fish-based fertiliser to boost crop yields and generate surplus for export.

“Our farmers must have the tools to feed the nation and bring in foreign currency,” he said, adding that increased exports would strengthen the economy and reduce reliance on imports.

Chilungo also unveiled plans to launch nationwide vocational training programmes aimed at equipping young people with marketable skills to promote self-reliance and reduce unemployment.

On education policy, the presidential hopeful pledged to integrate Islamic studies into the national curriculum, arguing that the current emphasis on Bible knowledge lacks religious inclusivity.

Chilungo’s campaign message is centred on economic revival, skills development, and fostering a more inclusive education system as he seeks to present himself as a reform-minded alternative in next month’s elections.
