Karonga United Football Club has received a K20 million sponsorship from Lotus Africa, the company operating the Kayerekera Uranium Mine in Karonga District, Malawi. The financial boost will be used to purchase brand-new football uniforms, strengthening the team’s preparations for the 2025 Malawi football season.

Speaking on Wednesday, August 12, Karonga United head coach Ramsey Simwaka expressed gratitude for the donation, describing it as a significant milestone in the club’s growth.
“Lotus Africa has shown a generous heart in supporting the community around them, setting a great example. Both the players and all our supporters deeply appreciate this assistance,” Simwaka said.
The sponsorship comes shortly after President Lazarus Chakwera officially reopened the Kayerekera Mine, signaling renewed economic activity in the Northern Region. The partnership between Lotus Africa and Karonga United showcases the company’s dedication to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and community empowerment through sports.
