Nkhotakota, Malawi – Former President and leader of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Arthur Peter Mutharika, has strongly criticized the administration of President Lazarus Chakwera, saying it has failed to deliver on promises made to Malawians since taking office in 2020.

Speaking during a whistle-stop rally in Nkhotakota district along the Lakeshore region, Mutharika told supporters that running government is not a game and requires experienced leadership like his.

“The Chakwera administration has failed to rescue Malawians despite the trust people gave them in 2020. Governing is not child’s play—it needs capable people like us,” said Mutharika.

He urged Malawians to come out in large numbers on 16 September 2025 and vote for the DPP, emphasizing that his party remains the only hope to restore economic stability, food security, and infrastructure development in the country.

Mutharika also dismissed rival rallies organized by other parties in the area, saying they were only held as a reaction to his presence in Nkhotakota.

“I hear that some parties quickly arranged their meetings after learning that I was coming here, but that will not help them. Malawians know the truth,” he added.

The former Head of State was accompanied by senior DPP officials and his wife, Gertrude Mutharika. He is also expected to hold another campaign rally at the Kaphatenga trading center in Salima district, where he will continue outlining the DPP’s vision ahead of the 2025 general elections.

Key Issues Raised by Mutharika

Economic hardship: Rising cost of living under Chakwera’s government.

Leadership failure: Lack of delivery on campaign promises.

DPP as an alternative: Assurance of better governance and development projects.

As Malawi heads towards the highly contested September 2025 elections, Mutharika is positioning the DPP as the strongest alternative to the current administration, promising to bring back stability and prosperity.
