MEC Cautions Against Premature Results, Reminds Voters of Guidelines

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has cautioned stakeholders and the general public against releasing unofficial election results, stressing that only the Commission has the mandate to announce the certified results.

In a press briefing, MEC Commissioner Anabel Mtalimanja emphasised that no media outlet, political party, or individual is permitted to air results before the official release.BMTV claims MCP knows Mutharika is winning the elections

In her briefing, Mtalimanja also reminded voters that taking photographs of ballot papers is strictly prohibited, warning that such actions violate electoral regulations and compromise the secrecy of the vote.

On voting hours, MEC clarified that all eligible voters who arrive at polling centres by 4:00 p.m. will be allowed to cast their ballot, even if they are still in the queue after closing time and encouraged voters to turn out and vote.

Mtalimanja urged all Malawians to remain patient and allow the Commission to carry out its mandate professionally
