Popular online platform Bakili Muluzi TV has issued a statement on its Facebook page alleging bias in the coverage of the ongoing election results..State House Polling Station Rejects Chakwera as Staff Favor Mutharika
The platform claimed that private broadcasters Zodiak and Times TV had already compromised their integrity before the vote.
According to the statement, the two stations allegedly benefited financially from Lazarus Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Bakili Muluzi TV argued that the broadcasters’ decision to stop announcing results is directly linked to the emerging lead of Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
The post further claimed that Zodiak and Times TV had wished for the MCP to win, but once it became clear that the DPP was in the lead, they chose to suspend their updates.
The platform alleged that Mutharika had already secured over 60 percent of the vote, crossing the crucial threshold for outright victory.
It described the broadcasters’ silence as suspicious, suggesting it was a coordinated attempt to suppress information unfavorable to the MCP.
The statement contrasted the situation with the 2020 elections, when unofficial results were openly shared and quickly signaled Chakwera’s victory.
Peter Mutharika Takes Early Lead in Malawi Presidential Election Results
Bakili Muluzi TV lamented that this time, results are being hidden “as if they were illicit goods.”
The accusations have added further controversy to an already tense electoral environment, with Malawians increasingly anxious for transparency and clarity from both the media and the electoral authorities.
