Peter Mutharika Takes Early Lead in Malawi Presidential Election Results

The unofficial presidential election results in Malawi 2025 show that Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate, Peter Mutharika, is leading the race with 55.1% of the vote.

According to figures tallied so far, out of 3,142,048 votes counted, Mutharika has secured 1,730,530 votes, putting him well ahead of his closest rival.

Chakwera Trails in Second Place

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader, Lazarus Chakwera, is currently in second place with 34.2%, translating to 1,073,788 votes.

Meanwhile, Dalitso Kabambe of the UTM is in third position with 3.9%, which equals 125,961 votes.

Vote Counting Still Underway

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has confirmed that vote tallying is still ongoing. MEC has assured the nation that it will continue to release official verified results in the coming hours.

These preliminary results have sparked huge interest across Malawi and beyond, as citizens eagerly await to see who will become the country’s next president.

What This Means for Malawi

If the current trend continues, Mutharika could secure a decisive victory. However, with more results yet to be confirmed, the race is far from over.
