A Concerned Citizen of Malawi residing in Area 51-Lilongwe- Mrs. Elizabeth Kaliza Banda, has accused broadcasters of suspending presidential election coverage siding with Bakili Muluzi TV of its allegation that the broadcasters received money from the MCP.
Kaliza has noted with a great concern that Luntha TV, Zodiak and Times have all announced suspensions of coverage for the presidential dashboard until further notice speaking to itself that MCP which its mandate pf running the country ended on 16th September, 2025 is still issuing orders to the broadcasters.
She said for all the previous election coverage, there have been unofficial results being released and reported to the general public and from these unofficial results, some candidates and their supporters were accepting defeats before the official announcement of results.
The citizen said the MCP after seeing unofficial results are indicating that Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on the lead by over 60 percent of the votes counted in 22 districts, ordered broadcasters to stop coverage, describing this as a coup de etat by the MCP to broadcasters under the influence of money.
She said in 2020 the very same radios and televisions stations Zodiak, Luntha and Times made Malawians to celebrate Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s victory through unofficial results, today, because it is Professor Mutharika’s victory, they have closed their airwaves.
MISA Malawi has condemned the suspension of presidential dashboard coverage saying live updates of unofficial results are both timely and important instruments for the media in fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
In a statement signed by its Chairperson Golden Matonga, MISA Malawi says the Malawi’s constitution empowers the media to freely report on matters of public interest as this will empower Malawians with timely and accurate information.
Kaliza has assured the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) that it can use all tactics on its table, but the truth is that Malawians have spoken in a free and fair elections that time out for President Chakwera and the MCP to govern this country.
She said as from the 16th September, 2025 Malawi has a new President, President –Elect Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is the out-going President advising him to leave State House in peace and love.
Kaliza has finally wished the out-going President of the Republic of Malawi Dr. Lazarus Chakwera all the best saying he is living office without pomp and legacy to write about while tobacco growers are all in tears with their tobacco bales in sheds without buyers.
