United Democratic Front’s (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi, has joined the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) demanding vote recounting looking at so many irregularities that have rocked the just ended 16th September, 2025 elections.

Atupele Muluzi said he is disturbed like anyone that the people’s vote is in jeopardy having found so many irregularities in many tally centres in Blantyre, Mangochi, Machinga, and Zomba districts saying such irregularities demotivate people.

Speaking during a press conference in Lilongwe, Atupele Muluzi has demanded for a recount of the votes saying he has launched his complaint with Mec providing all the necessary evidence required for the truth to prevail.Peter Mutharika Takes Early Lead in Malawi Presidential Election Results

“Our lawyers are ready to take up the matter to court should there be need to do so,” said Atupele Muluzi.

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) have confirmed the arrests of eight polling Officers and Constituency Returning Officers registering two cases of attempted suicides in relation to the just ended 16th September, 2025 elections.

Many Malawians are still arguing that it would have been better to display irregularities that have happened in the central region districts particularly Lilongwe Rural East and West suspecting that Mec is deliberately hiding the irregularities by focusing much with the irregularities committed in the southern region of Malawi.

Mrs. Elizabeth Kaliza Banda of Area 51 in Lilongwe, said all these irregularities are man-made by the MCP influencing Mec to reject calls to audit the voters’ roll and today, they are found outside the ring for their own irregularities because Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has been unofficially declared the winner.

She said millions of Malawians are behind Professor Mutharika’s victory but the MCP with a handful of hand-clappers is making unnecessary noise just to protect individual interests with fears that some will end up entering prison corridors for committing serious offences.

“The people have spoken even President Chakwera is all aware that Malawians have rejected him, let Professor Mutharika be Sworn-in as President of the country,” said Kaliza Banda.

Bakili Muluzi TV online station has faulted Atupele Muluzi wrong that while the opposition parties were demanding audit of the voters’ roll, he was seen backing the MCP claiming that he took with him some UDF senior members to meet Mec officials for undisclosed meeting.

The TV station says it is sad that Muluzi has joined the MCP demanding for audit of electoral votes, the audit he at first rejected describing him as a “sellout” observing that on Friday, he was at Sam Kawale’s house meeting some MCP officials discussing on how to move forward as one group.

“Malawians have chosen Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika whether he likes it or not, the way he is feeling pain today, his friends felt the same in June, 2020, you can live in denial but the truth is what you saw,” reads BMTV writings on the wall
