A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has pleaded with President – Elect Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to grant a 30-days Amnesty to all those that have looted public resources to return without facing prosecutions.
Kamphangala said Amnesty to the looters will help the new government recover trillions from MCP individuals other than prosecuting them to serve jail terms which in the end, government and citizens will benefit nothing from the looters.
Court rebuffs, Chakwera, MCP on results’ determination
He said the late Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli granted Amnesty to the looters, saying the Tanzanian government recovered billions of Shillings which could have been lost if the looters had gone to Prison to serve their sentences.
It has been reported in the media quoting DPP National Publicity Secretary Shadric Namalomba who has made it clear that the DPP led government will not allow the looters to give back what they have stolen in government but allowing the long arm of the law to take its course.
Kamphangala said truth to be said, MCP senior members, cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament (MPs) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, his family, and friends, have stolen trillions of Kwachas from government coffers saying what they have stolen need to be recovered and not sending them to prison.
He said sending them to prison must be the last option after they have failed to give back equivalent to what they have stolen and this will be after the Evaluators have visited and satisfied that with what they have showed to them is not matching with what they stole in government coffers.
Uladi Mussa Resigns from MCP, Shifts Focus to Charity Work
The MCP diehard gave an example of the M7 Road which run from Dzaleka Camp in Dowa to Ntchisi to meet Malomo- Nkhotakota Road claiming that the contractor is reported to have pocketed K2 billion for no work at all.
He said the Dowa people would wish the contractor to retain the money he has stolen other than sending him to prison because government will be hunting for money from other sources to start building this road, while the contractor has invested that K2 billion in building the house for his girl -friend.
Kamphangala gave another example of Richard Chimwendo Banda who is reported to have built 2 lodges in Salima, 5 fillings stations, and 365 plots scattered across the country, questioning the DPP led government what gain would government get for sending him to prison?
“Let government takes hold of property suspected to have been built with stolen money from government coffers,” he said.
He has expressed optimistic that Professor Mutharika being a listening President as compared to the outgoing President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera will take heed of his advice despite him having no name in the political history of the country.
Kamphangala has finally appealed to some MCP individuals who have stolen government property and money and are keeping them outside the country or in the bushes to come out and give back what they have stolen reminding all MCP looters that the DPP will have eyes and ears from MCP members and supporters as well.
