Company Accused of Altering Expiry Dates

According to MBS Senior Certification Officer, Raphael Mpingo, Zamm Investments was caught changing expiry dates on food flavours in an attempt to extend their shelf life. Mpingo explained that such practices pose serious health risks to consumers and contravene the Malawi Bureau of Standards Act.

“We discovered that the company was manipulating expiry dates and using expired raw materials in food production. This is a clear violation of national standards designed to protect consumers,” said Mpingo.

Call for Qualified Quality Control Officers

Mpingo further urged all food manufacturing companies in Malawi to employ qualified quality control officers to ensure that raw materials and ingredients used in production meet safety and quality requirements.

“We encourage manufacturers to prioritize consumer safety by ensuring that all materials used are properly certified and within their shelf life,” he added.

MBS Reinforces Commitment to Food Safety

The destruction exercise highlights the ongoing efforts by MBS to enforce compliance with food safety laws and eliminate substandard or expired products from the market.
MBS continues to conduct regular inspections, product testing, and market surveillance to ensure that all goods sold in Malawi meet approved safety standards.
