President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has assured the newly elected Speaker of the National Assembly Rt. Hon. Sameer Suleman of his full support as he assumes office of the head of the legislative arm of government.

President Professor Mutharika says he sees Suleman, a man capable of steering parliamentary deliberations in the House for the betterment of mother- Malawi advising him that this is his moment to serve and shine.

Writing in a statement, Professor Mutharika says when he nominated Hon. Suleman for the position of Speaker of the National Assembly, he did so with full confidence in his leadership qualities and capabilities which he has demonstrated through various positions he has held over the years.

“Once again, congratulations and best wishes,” reads Professor Mutharika’s message on the wall.

And in the same vein, he has send his congratulations to Hon. Victor Musowa and Hon. Esther Jolobala for their deserved victories of 1st Deputy and 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament respectively.

Speaking through an audio clip on Wednesday, political activist Bon Kalindo, said elections of the Speaker of Parliament position was a do or die game to the DPP if they want the DPP led government of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to do well.

Kalindo warned parliamentarians that having a Speaker of Parliament elected from opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) will be a total mistake putting his weight on Hon. Suleman, Hon. Victor Musowa and Hon. Esther Jolobala for government projects to move.

“MCP cannot bring anything new in the Parliament, they were given 5 years to deliver and they have failed, no need for them to come back,” he said.

On his part, a Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala has described DPP victories in the August House as a lesson to correct the mistakes the MCP has demonstrated through the bad leadership style of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera which has left no legacy to write about in Malawi.

Kamphangala said he saw this coming that MCP cannot win any seat in the National Assembly because of the way its leader President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera ruled the country claiming that the country was moving on its own without a leader.

He said President Chakwera did not care of listening to the cries of his people, he was being fed lies that everything was good in the country while millions of people including the Chewas, were in pain and sufferings.

“Had it been that President Chakwera won the 16th September, 2025 elections, the country could have been thrown to the dogs, praise the Lord for the change of leadership, the will of God and Malawians spoke,” said Kamphangala.
