Graduates of Soche Technical College have been challenged to actively apply their skills and contribute to solving the country’s development challenges rather than merely identifying them.
The call was made on Friday at COMESA Hall in Blantyre during the institution’s graduation ceremony, where a total of 137 students received diplomas and advanced diplomas in various technical fields.
According to the college, this year’s graduating class comprised 60 per cent female students and 40 per cent males, reflecting improving gender balance in technical education.
Guest of honour and founder of Fadeth Furnitures, Richard Chirwa, urged the graduates to step into the world with a problem-solving mindset, stressing that industries need professionals who offer solutions that meet real needs.
Chirwa said Malawi is already aware of the many challenges it faces and emphasized that what the country requires most are individuals equipped and willing to provide meaningful answers.
He further encouraged the graduates to put into practice the skills and ideas acquired during their training, noting that knowledge only becomes valuable when it is applied.
Soche Technical College Principal, Greystone Mabveka, highlighted that the graduates have been prepared to contribute to national development in line with the pillars of Malawi’s Agenda 2063.
Mabveka said the training offered by the institution is designed to support key national priorities such as agricultural productivity, industrialization, and urbanization.
He also expressed gratitude to parents, guardians, and partner organizations for supporting the students throughout their academic journey.
Speaking on behalf of the graduating class, student representative Bright Majola thanked the college for its guidance and encouraged fellow graduates to uphold discipline, integrity, and professionalism as they enter the world of work.
Majola described the graduation day as a well-earned reward for their dedication and urged his peers to remain committed to excellence in their respective fields.
This year’s graduation was held under the theme “A Generation Equipped to Make a Difference.”
