There is confusions and misunderstandings surrounding an organized Malawi Congress Party (MCP) rally to be held at Mgona ground in Lilongwe City Chipala- Nafisi constituency to be addressed by MCP National Executive Committee (NEC) members on the 31ST December, 2025.
According to the communication which is circulating in various social media platforms, the speakers will be former Secretary General of the MCP Eisenhower Mkaka, former Kasungu West parliamentarian Alex Major, former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Madalitso Kazombo and former Lilongwe City central constituency MP Alfred Jiya.
The communication has appealed to MCP members and supporters never and ever to recognize President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera as President of the party until a Mean Convention of the party is held to review factors that led the party to suffer a miserable defeat on the 16th September, 2025 elections.
It has further notified MCP members that President Chakwera travelled outside the country believed to be in Dubai for a holiday without the knowledge of MCP NEC and supporters of the party were not informed and he was not escorted as previously done.
On a surprising note, Alfred Jiya has distanced himself from the organized rally that he is not attending and he supports President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera accusing those who have organized the Mgona rally of planting seeds of confusions in the party.
Jiya said he supports the four cornerstones upon which the MCP was founded by Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda of Unity, Obedience, Loyalty and Discipline describing those who have organized the Mgona rally as rebels of the party.
“The rally has not been organized by MCP but rebels, people who do not love the party and people who loves the party will not go,” said Jiya on his face book page.
A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Deputy Constituency Secretary speaking on a strict condition of anonymity, has praised those who have organized the Mgona MCP rally as people wishing the party well saying this meeting will be blessing in disguise to the party members.
The Secretary has accused Alfred Jiya of siding with all those that have destroyed the MCP including President Chakwera claiming that people did not want Chakwera but there were some people in the party who imposed him to stand in the elections.
He said the MCP has to go to the factory setting if it is serious to bounce back into government in 2030 but with President Chakwera becoming the party’s torch bearer as some members of the party are wishing, no MCP member will vote for him.
The Secretary said he is very surprised that Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has till this day not announced his leave from active politics to concentrate on his pastoral teaching of the word of God in the church advising him to step down for him to earn respect from the party members.
“For the good of the party and its quest to rebuilding, President Chakwera must resign from his position, we don’t need him anymore in the party for he has turned the MCP into a laughing stock by the world,” he said.
The MCP Constituency Secretary has encouraged those that have planned to address MCP members in Mgona Township in Lilongwe to go ahead saying MCP members and supporters do not want their party to die a natural death with Chakwera and Richard Chimwendo Banda as leaders.
