Malawi has taken another significant step toward strengthening its international partnerships, with Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. George Chaponda holding high-level talks with Rasha Hamdy Hussein, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Malawi.

The meeting, described as productive and forward-looking, followed up on discussions Dr. Chaponda held with his Egyptian counterpart on the margins of the Second Ministerial Conference of the Africa–Russia Partnership Forum, recently hosted in Cairo. Dr. Chaponda commended Egypt for the successful organization of the conference, underscoring the country’s growing diplomatic influence and leadership on the African continent.

In line with Malawi’s development aspirations, Dr. Chaponda reiterated a strong invitation to Egyptian investors to explore opportunities in Malawi, with particular emphasis on energy generation and infrastructure development through Public–Private Partnerships (PPPs). He highlighted Malawi’s investor-friendly environment and the government’s commitment to partnering with credible international players to accelerate socio-economic transformation.

Ambassador Hussein reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Malawi across a wide range of priority sectors, including agriculture, energy, trade and investment, health, and education. She noted that collaboration in the health sector is already showing promising momentum, with discussions underway to enable Malawians to access specialised medical treatment in Egypt. She further revealed encouraging prospects for the establishment of a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Malawi, a development that could significantly boost local capacity and reduce dependence on imported medicines.

The meeting concluded on a high note, with both sides agreeing to establish a Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation later this year. The Commission is expected to provide a structured framework for translating bilateral commitments into tangible projects and long-term partnerships.

The engagement reflects Malawi’s proactive diplomacy under Dr. Chaponda’s leadership and signals a renewed chapter in Malawi–Egypt relations—one anchored on mutual benefit, investment-led growth, and shared development goals.
