Washington, D.C. — Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday signaled that he is exploring ways to resolve tensions with Iran, emphasizing that the Strait of Hormuz should be protected by the nations that rely on it rather than the United States.

Speaking via his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said, “We are close to achieving our objectives and we are ending this war in the Middle East.”

He further stressed, “The Strait of Hormuz should be protected by the countries that use it. The United States does not use it.”

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime passage for global oil shipments, linking the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Trump’s remarks come amid ongoing regional tensions and discussions on international security responsibilities.

Analysts say his comments highlight a push for greater regional responsibility in ensuring safe passage through this strategic waterway, while also signaling a potential shift in U.S. engagement policy in the Middle East.
