Mpinganjira to grace Sulom dinner, dance

Business mogul and philanthropist Thomson Mpinganjira will be the guest of honour at the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) fundraising dinner and dance scheduled for this Saturday at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe

The flagship football league-runners announced this in a statement released on Monday evening.

To be the guest of honour: Mpinganjira

Reads the statement: “We are privileged to announce Dr Thomson Mpinganjira, a well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist, as our guest of honour at the highly anticipated Sulom fundraising dinner and dance taking place on 30th March 2024 in Lilongwe.

“It reckons to be a night stakeholders are united by a common vision to uplift the standards of our elite football.”

Mpinganjira, who is also Mighty Mukuru Wanderers president and board chairperson, confirmed being approached by Sulom to grace the occasion.

In an interview yesterday, he said: “The statement by Sulom about being united by a common vision to uplift the standards of our elite football summarises it very well or else we will remain mediocre.”

The event’s organising committee chairperson Twikale Chirwa said they are targeting to raise between K50 million and K100 million.

“We are ready to take Malawians down memory lane with the history of the league and its legends as well as a taste of the future to be articulated by the Sulom president. Our objective remains  to aid Super League teams in their operations,” he said.

Chirwa, who is head of marketing for First Capital Bank, said Afrobeat artist Praise Umali will entertain patrons.

A platinum table for 10 is going at K10 million, a gold table is at K7 million, a silver table is pegged at K5 million while a standard table is at K200 000
