During a memorial Mass held this morning at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Mzuzu, Bishop Martin Mtumbuka of the Diocese of Karonga called on the country’s youth to embrace leadership and contribute actively to national development. The service, which honored the late Vice-President Saulos Chilima and eight others, was attended by Chilima’s widow, Mary Chilima, and several prominent politicians including Khumbo Kachali, Dalitso Kabambe, Newton Kambala, and Timothy Mtambo.
In his sermon, Bishop Mtumbuka emphasized that the youth should not shy away from taking responsibility for the country’s future. He urged them to be proactive and not to merely criticize politicians but to become involved in driving positive change. “Do not be cowards by not doing anything about the country’s development but blaming politicians,” he stated.
The memorial Mass was a poignant event, reflecting on the legacy of Vice-President Chilima, who was known for his dedication to public service. The bishop’s remarks highlighted the importance of continuing Chilima’s spirit of leadership and innovation, encouraging young people to step forward and take initiative in shaping the country’s progress.
The gathering at St. Peter’s Cathedral served as both a tribute to the late Vice-President and a call to action for the younger generation to rise up and lead with the same commitment and vision that Chilima demonstrated during his life
