29-Year-Old Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Cattle Worth K7 Million in Chikwawa

By Burnett Munthali

Police in Chikwawa have arrested a 29-year-old man, Samu James, for allegedly stealing nine cattle valued at K7 million.

Chikwawa Police Spokesperson, Dickson Matemba, confirmed the arrest, stating that law enforcement officers launched an investigation into the matter on October 10, following a complaint from a local farmer. The farmer reported that unknown thieves had stolen the livestock from his farm.

Matemba revealed that the suspect was caught red-handed by well-wishers while attempting to load the cattle into his vehicle in a suspicious manner.

“Acting on the information, police rushed to the scene, apprehended the suspect, and recovered the stolen cattle,” Matemba said.

The suspect is currently in police custody, and further investigations are ongoing. The Chikwawa Police have since commended the community for their cooperation in helping prevent livestock theft, a crime that continues to affect farmers in the district.

Matemba urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police to ensure the safety and security of their property.
