The People’s Development Party (PDP) President, Dr. Kondwani Nankhumwa, has criticized President Lazarus Chakwera for his lack of communication regarding the ongoing fuel shortage in Malawi, which he claims is a sign that the country is being poorly led and drifting without strong leadership.

In a statement to the press, Dr. Nankhumwa emphasized that the fuel crisis is a clear indication that Malawi’s leadership is failing to address the critical issues affecting the daily lives of its citizens. He accused President Chakwera of failing to speak directly to the Malawian people about the situation, leaving them in the dark about the government’s plans to resolve the crisis.

“The continued silence from President Chakwera on the issue of fuel shortages is a clear demonstration of how the country is being left to operate without proper leadership,” said Nankhumwa. “As the leader of this nation, the president should have come forward and communicated with the people of Malawi on what steps he is taking to address this pressing issue.”

The PDP leader further stated that the lack of leadership is causing unnecessary hardship for Malawians, especially as the fuel shortage continues to impact transportation, businesses, and daily life across the country. He urged the president to take swift action and engage directly with the public on how his government plans to resolve the crisis.

“Malawi is facing a crisis, and the president’s silence is only exacerbating the situation,” Nankhumwa added. “It is crucial that he addresses this issue head-on and provides clear information to the people about what is being done to resolve the fuel shortage.”

Dr. Nankhumwa also mentioned that the PDP, along with other concerned Malawians, is participating in protests organized by the Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) to demand government action on the fuel crisis. These protests are scheduled to take place for the fourth time, highlighting the growing frustration among the public.

“While I join the protests, I am calling on the government to step up and take responsibility for the fuel shortage that is affecting all of us,” Nankhumwa said. “It is time for the government to stop ignoring the cries of the people and take decisive steps to bring about solutions.”

In conclusion, Nankhumwa’s remarks reflect the growing dissatisfaction with President Chakwera’s response to the ongoing fuel crisis, as Malawians continue to face challenges in accessing basic commodities and services. The call for immediate government action is becoming louder, as citizens demand effective leadership in addressing national issues.
