Kamuzu Cluster, a community group in Senior Chief Chilowamatambe’s area in Kasungu District, has launched a project focused on the production and sale of Mbeya fertilizer.
According to Violet Banda, a member of the Kamuzu Cluster, the initiative was made possible through training provided by COMSIP Cooperative Union Limited. Banda explained that the skills acquired in producing Mbeya fertilizer have enabled the group to manufacture and sell the fertilizer to farmers within the district.
Jonathan Baloyi, an official from the Kasungu District Agriculture Office, commended Kamuzu Cluster for the initiative. He noted that this development will significantly benefit farmers in the area, particularly as climate change continues to disrupt agricultural productivity in the country.
“This initiative will go a long way in supporting farmers, especially during these challenging times of climate change,” said Baloyi.
Febron Mwiba, a senior official at COMSIP Cooperative Union Limited, highlighted the organization’s efforts to empower Malawians across all districts. Mwiba explained that their training programs cover various skills, including Mbeya fertilizer production, financial savings, and lending techniques, all aimed at improving livelihoods in local communities.
The Kamuzu Cluster project is expected to boost agricultural productivity in Kasungu while offering affordable fertilizer alternatives to farmers who are struggling with rising costs of conventional fertilizers. This initiative represents a model of community-driven solutions to agricultural challenges, with the potential to inspire similar projects nationwide.
