UTM Spokesperson Felix Njawala has expressed deep concern over remarks made by Mulanje Bale lawmaker Victor Musowa at a recent political rally in Ndirande, Blantyre. Speaking at the rally, Musowa reportedly urged Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporters to confront individuals shouting the slogan “Kwacha!” in the township.

In a strongly worded statement on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Njawala described the remarks as reckless, inflammatory, and dangerous to Malawi’s peace and unity.

Njawala emphasized the need for leaders to promote tolerance and uphold democratic values. He criticized Musowa’s statements as divisive and counterproductive to the principles of free expression and peaceful coexistence.

“As leaders, our duty is to inspire tolerance and uphold the principles of free expression and peaceful coexistence. Hon. Musowa’s remarks are not only a departure from these values but also no different from the acts of intimidation we have seen in the Central Region by the MCP regime—behavior we have strongly opposed and continue to denounce,” Njawala wrote.

Njawala’s comments highlight the growing concern over political intimidation and the use of inflammatory language by some leaders. He warned that such rhetoric risks fueling tensions and eroding Malawi’s hard-won democratic gains.

“There is no place for divisive language in this democratic dispensation. We must reject all forms of intimidation and work towards building a united and peaceful nation,” Njawala said.

The UTM spokesperson called on all political leaders and supporters to exercise restraint and prioritize unity. He urged political parties to engage in constructive dialogue and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.

Njawala’s condemnation of Musowa’s remarks serves as a timely reminder of the importance of responsible leadership in maintaining peace and democracy in Malawi. As the country prepares for the next elections, the need for unity, tolerance, and respect for free expression remains paramount.
