Muslims across Malawi tomorrow, Thursday, May 28, will join millions of fellow believers around the world in commemorating Eid Al-Adha, one of the holiest celebrations in Islam, marked by prayers, sacrifice, charity and family gatherings.

The celebration, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, commemorates the devotion and obedience of Prophet Abraham, who according to Islamic teachings was willing to sacrifice his son Ismail in submission to Allah’s command before God provided an alternative sacrifice.Eid Ul-Adha Special- Malawi Freedom Network

In Malawi, the occasion is expected to be observed in mosques, homes and open prayer grounds across the country, with thousands of Muslim families preparing for communal prayers and the slaughtering of animals as part of the religious tradition.

Chabulika, however, expressed concern over reported restrictions on cattle movement in some districts following outbreaks of livestock disease, a development that could affect preparations for the important religious event.

He said the association is appealing to government authorities to support Muslim communities in affected districts such as and to ensure the celebrations proceed safely and in accordance with public health guidelines.

The appeal comes at a time when authorities are intensifying measures to control livestock diseases in some parts of the country, with restrictions affecting transportation and trading of cattle.

Meanwhile, Muslims have described Eid Al-Adha as a significant moment for spiritual reflection, unity and generosity.

One of the faithful in , Hastings Maponya, said the celebration remains one of the most anticipated occasions on the Islamic calendar.

Eid Al-Adha is traditionally marked by special congregational prayers, sharing meals with relatives and neighbors, and donating meat and other essentials to underprivileged families as a symbol of compassion and community solidarity.
