A gathering of UTM and MCP members at Mudi House, the official residence of Vice President Dr. Michael Usi, turned sour as attendees realized that promised maize and cash handouts were not forthcoming. Instead, they received reduced cash payouts of K6,000, contrary to expectations of K10,000.

The crowd, comprising members from both parties, had been mobilized under the impression that they would receive the promised incentives. However, the failure to deliver on these promises has sparked widespread discontent.

UTM members, some of whom traveled from distant locations such as Ndirande and Chirimba, expressed frustration and disappointment. They claimed that an officer in the Vice President’s office, Mr. Kuchingale, had explicitly promised the incentives, which has further eroded trust in Dr. Usi’s leadership.

The incident has raised questions about Dr. Usi’s commitment to the principles of Tsogolo Lowala and his ability to lead effectively. As tensions escalate, the Vice President faces growing pressure to address the concerns of his party members and restore trust in his leadership.

The situation has also sparked accusations of betrayal, with some questioning Dr. Usi’s dual allegiance to UTM and MCP. Councillor Balaba of Ndirande has been vocal in his criticism, calling for clarity and accountability from the Vice President.

As the fallout continues, the Vice President must take swift action to address the grievances of his party members and reaffirm his commitment to the principles of Tsogolo Lowala. The future of UTM hangs in the balance, and Dr. Usi’s actions will be crucial in determining the party’s trajectory.
