The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has expressed confidence that the country’s security agencies will provide adequate protection during the forthcoming elections.

MEC Chairperson, Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, made the remarks in Mangochi during a stakeholder engagement meeting that brought together all branches of Malawi’s security sector.

The meeting aimed to foster dialogue and strengthen collaboration among the various security agencies to ensure that citizens can vote peacefully and without fear.

Justice Mtalimanja urged the security organs, including the military and prison services, to implement inclusive security measures that safeguard all citizens.

She emphasized the need for a coordinated approach that guarantees the safety of every voter as the country prepares for the crucial polls.

According to Justice Mtalimanja, election preparations are a collective responsibility, but security institutions have a critical role to play in ensuring that every eligible Malawian votes and returns home safely.

She highlighted that a peaceful electoral process is essential for strengthening democracy and public trust in Malawi’s democratic institutions.

In her remarks, Malawi’s Inspector General of Police, Merlyne Yolamu, reassured the public of the police service’s commitment to protecting all citizens.

Yolamu affirmed that law enforcement officers are fully prepared to provide a safe environment for both voters and electoral staff during the elections.

The meeting in Mangochi served as a platform for reinforcing the message that peace and security are fundamental to the success of the upcoming election.
