Kabambe slams leadership failures, promises real economic reform under UTM

By Burnett Munthali

The President of the UTM Party has strongly condemned the growing corruption and leadership failures that he says continue to plunge Malawi deeper into poverty.

Speaking at a rally held today at Namasimba Ground in Nancholi, Blantyre, Dr. Dalitso Kabambe did not mince words in criticizing the conduct of those in power.

He stated that most leaders, once elected into government, neglect the needs of ordinary Malawians and instead pursue personal interests.

Kabambe emphasized that the UTM Party is committed to bringing about real economic transformation in Malawi.

He outlined the party’s strategy, which includes promoting agriculture as a viable business, reviving and opening industries, and ensuring development funds are disbursed directly to local councils.

These reforms, according to Kabambe, are aimed at empowering communities and creating sustainable livelihoods for all Malawians.

During the rally, Kabambe and other UTM supporters also held a candlelight ceremony in remembrance of the late Saulos Chilima.

Chilima, who served as the party’s leader and Vice President of Malawi, died in June 2024 and is still deeply mourned by many in the UTM family and across the country.

The gathering served not only as a platform for political mobilization but also as a solemn moment of tribute to the man many credit with reshaping the party’s vision and identity.
