All was set at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) on Friday for the official presentation of presidential candidacy nomination papers.
The atmosphere was charged with anticipation as political supporters, officials, and observers gathered at the venue to witness the start of this critical electoral milestone.
The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) had put in place all logistical arrangements to ensure a smooth and credible process, in line with the 2025 General Elections roadmap.
The first presidential aspirant to present his nomination papers was none other than His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate.
He arrived at the BICC to a warm reception from party supporters and delegates, underlining his continued presence as a major force in Malawi’s political landscape.
Mutharika’s scheduled appearance before the Commission was set for 9:30AM, marking the official beginning of nomination day.
Security was visibly tight, with law enforcement officers stationed around the venue to maintain order and facilitate a peaceful process.
Inside the main auditorium, MEC officials, journalists, and party representatives were present to witness the formal submission and vetting of documents.
This event marked a significant step in Mutharika’s journey toward a potential return to State House, as he seeks to regain the presidency in the upcoming September elections.
With Mutharika leading the queue of presidential hopefuls, attention now turns to how the rest of the candidates will follow through in the days ahead.
The nomination day at BICC was not only a procedural requirement, but also a symbol of Malawi’s enduring democratic process.
