Senior officials from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) are today holding a press conference in the city of Blantyre.
The two parties have organized this high-level meeting in preparation for the much-anticipated launch of their joint manifesto scheduled for tomorrow.
In addition, the event marks the official inauguration of their combined campaign for the 16 September 2025 general elections.
The press conference is being led by Sameer Suleman, one of the senior officials representing the DPP.
Speaking during the briefing, Suleman emphasized that the alliance between DPP and AFORD is rooted in shared values and a strong commitment to transforming the country.
He revealed that they have spent a full year collecting input from citizens, stakeholders, and policy experts to ensure that their manifesto responds to the real needs of Malawians.
Suleman highlighted that the manifesto is not just a political document, but a product of extensive research and consultation.
He also noted that the issues covered include economic recovery, job creation, infrastructure development, healthcare reform, and education improvement.
According to Suleman, the alliance’s presidential candidate, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, is more prepared than ever to return to office with a clear plan for national revival.
AFORD leaders, on their part, expressed optimism about the collaboration and affirmed their confidence in the vision shared with DPP.
They described the joint campaign as a historic partnership aimed at rescuing Malawi from economic hardship, rising inflation, and what they termed “poor governance” under the current administration.
The mood at the press conference reflected growing momentum and unity among the opposition as they gear up for what many expect to be one of the most competitive elections in Malawi’s democratic history.
All eyes are now on tomorrow’s manifesto launch, where the two parties are expected to unveil a comprehensive roadmap for what they promise will be a new era of leadership.
