It is deeply disturbing that today on August 3rd, as the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was set to launch its manifesto, the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) — a public broadcaster funded by taxpayers — completely ignored the event.
Is MBC now the mouthpiece of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) instead of serving all Malawians equally?
Even more alarming is the interference with Zodiak Broadcasting Station’s signal, allegedly orchestrated through MACRA under the influence of Daudi Suleiman and MCP operatives.
The intention was clear: to block citizens across the country from hearing the DPP’s manifesto.
This is not politics — this is abuse of power, a dangerous drift toward authoritarianism. Using government machinery to silence the opposition is not only shameful, it undermines the credibility of our democracy.
This incident must be urgently reported to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
If national broadcasters and regulatory institutions are being manipulated to favour the ruling party in this official campaign period then the ground is no longer level — and the 2025 elections risk being fundamentally compromised.
Democracy thrives on fairness, transparency, and equal access. MCP must stop this sabotage.
The people of Malawi are watching — and they will not tolerate dictatorship in disguise.
